I won’t deny that I think the film is very beautiful: the production design, the costumes, the props… Bolduc) and many other details contributed to making it a wonderful experience for the eyes, in my opinion. Now in a plot as huge as Dumas’, with so many characters, characters, subplots, etc.

d., the authors had to cut something out, adapt, rewrite something… show how often this is necessary or critical to any adaptation! But why should we be ashamed of the original author’s (Dumas) choice?
And what are we left with here?
Why should we be ashamed of the lessons he wanted to convey: Monte Cristo’s moral dilemma, his kindness in general, his help to many people, and his unsurpassed devotion to all those who were kind to him or deserved it in some way? Why would he change his love for Hyde to a stupid romance? Even Mercedes is admirable in the book, for understanding Monte Cristo’s actions and why he cannot be saved and why Albert must follow him…
I can assure you that this is not what you will be left with when you read it
