Siren or myth?
Narrative
Parthenope is a woman named after her city.
In Greek myth, Parthenope is the siren who committed suicide after failing to seduce Odysseus
Her body was carried by the tide to the place where Castel dell’Ovo is now built, and therefore gave its name to the city that would later become Neapolis, Naples.
In the film, Parthenope embodies the city of Naples
Warmth Written by: Peter Gregson Cast: Peter Gregson, Warren Zielinski, Magdalena Filipczak, Laurie Anderson, Ashok Klouda.
Too many familiar scenes, too many already depicted obsessions, too many mannerisms repeated endlessly
The main problem with Parthenope is that it adds nothing new to Paolo Sorrentino’s filmography.
I really enjoy Sorrentino’s cinema, but the excitement I felt when I left the theater after seeing The Consequences of Love is now a faint memory, faded like summer youth once was
While it is true that cigarettes have become the director’s signature, having every actor—from the beautiful lead to the background extras—lighting one up all the time quickly becomes frustrating, if not downright ridiculous.
