I’ll start by saying that this film was produced

Narrative

Four turbulent decades during the Northern Ireland rebellion. The real Dolores Price was married for two decades (1983-2003) to Irish actor Stephen Rea. During this time, Rea appeared in the film for which he is perhaps best known in the United States: the 1992 romantic thriller The Crying Game. In this film, Rea plays Fergus, an extremely reluctant and controversial member of the Irish Republican Army (IRA), the same organization that Price was involved with for many years. the series is fantastic, the acting is fantastic, and the story overall is gripping.

accent butchered to the point of cringe

Being from Northern Ireland, it’s always nice to see something from here presented on TV or in a movie, but usually it feels like it’s “B.” production at best. I’m thrilled to say that’s not the case with Say Nothing, a series made in a way that I think will be watched and praised by people all over the world. These things usually only appeal to people from the island, those directly involved or history buffs. But I think it will appeal to a wider audience as it is presented as a drama series with characters at heart. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched something and heard Northern Ireland mentioned.

We’re not sure where they were hiding but they found them eventually!

I’ve always wondered if we had better actors (other than Liam Neeson) who could play these roles. The acting was excellent throughout the show and it’s nice to see some home grown talent getting some much needed and deserved recognition. I wasn’t familiar with most of the cast of this show but if at least one or two aren’t household names in the UK I’d be surprised (especially the actors who played the Price sisters). I haven’t read the book although I imagine it’s more historical and focused on events during the Troubles. The show definitely keeps its historical and cultural influence in mind even though it is mostly character driven.

confusing right and wrong even in wartime and even when you’re convinced the only right opinion is yours

It does a great job of developing the characters and portraying all sides of the characters involved and showing a lot of emotion in people that we would probably like to see as one-dimensional in real life. My only reservation about this show is that I felt the story of the Troubles was a bit one-sided. The focus is, of course, on the IRA/Republican movement so it’s no real surprise that they are seen as the main character. However, there are two sides to the story of the Belfast conflict and the Protestant/Union side seems to have been left out completely. I think they did a good job of showing how bad things went and how the lines were formed.

I think it’s going to be a difficult time for a lot of people, especially those directly affected and still grieving the loss of loved ones

I hope people can enjoy it for what it is, an excellent piece of television on a subject that most of the world has probably forgotten or even heard of, and I hope that prejudices don’t get in the way of enjoyment. Great show.
